We are looking for qualified Complementary Therapists who can commit to a minimum of half a day a week to volunteer with us between Monday and Friday. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team you will take responsibility for your own caseload of patients working with outpatients, inpatients and their carers, with support from the  Complementary Therapy Co-ordinator.

Required skills, experience and competencies:

  • A Complementary therapy qualification for the therapies to be offered. (eg massage, reflexology, aromatherapy, Reiki)
  • Registration with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) for required therapy. (can be applied for once  your application is succesful). We will need to see your qualification certificates and professional indemnity insurance for the therapies to be offered
  • At least 2 years’ experience of working with clients as a qualified complementary therapist
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with a diverse group of patients and colleagues
  • Understanding the need to take particular precautions in giving a therapy to patients with palliative care needs and at end of life and ability to adjust treatments accordingly
  • Ability, with training and own self-directed learning/reading where needed, to reach a high level of competence in meeting the needs of patients within a palliative care setting
  • Understanding of and adherence to the relevant professional body’s code of ethics
  • Understanding of the importance of working within organisational policies and protocols
  • Maturity and self-awareness regarding the emotional impact of working with death and dying
  • Sufficient IT skills to demonstrate competent use of the electronic record system (training provided)
  • Well-organised, enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
