Could you volunteer for us? All we ask is that you are free to volunteer for 6 months or more and for 2-3 hours per week. We are currently looking for people who have some free time between the hours of 10am & 5pm, Monday-Friday.

Typical tasks undertaken include:

  •  Emotional support such as chatting with a patient, listening or reading to them
  •  Practical support such as accompanying them to an appointment, social group or to the shops
  •  Providing information to patients and their family about what other support is available in the community and how to access it

Volunteers are not expected to provide personal care, counselling or advice, or to help with cooking and cleaning.

Your role as a Trinity Befriending Volunteer will be an incredibly rewarding experience and hugely beneficial to our patients, their families and carers.

As a Trinity Befriending Volunteer you will be expected to:

  • Visit a patient(s) once a week on a one-to-one basis in their home 
  • Deliver support within the boundaries of the role
  • Return the Befriending visit form after each visit, highlighting any support you have provided after each visit and actions to follow up 
  • Highlight concerns about patient welfare to the Befriending Volunteer Coordinator
  • Take responsibility for own personal safety and avoid potentially dangerous situations
  • Attend group supervision meetings 
  • Complete volunteer satisfaction survey every six months
  • Adhere to all relevant Trinity policies and procedures, Health and Safety and Data Protection.
  • Be aware of Equality & Diversity

This role will require a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check, provided free of charge by Trinity Hospice.
