What's happening News Trinity responds to Charity Digital Skills Report Royal Trinity Hospice has responded to a report released to today about the state of digital in the charity sector, arguing charities of all sizes need to get to grips with what digital means for them and to make the most of the opportunities it presents. The Charity Digital Skills Report, released today by Skills Platform and Zoe Amar Communications, contains responses from almost 500 charity professionals. Key barriers to progress reported included a lack of digital strategy (50% of respondents don’t have one), a lack of digital skills (57%) and a lack of funding (52%). Governance was also highlighted as an issue: almost three quarters (71%) of charities stated that their board’s digital skills were low or had room for improvement. Dallas Pounds, Chief Executive at Royal Trinity Hospice, said: “Digital has opened up new ways for Trinity to care for people approaching the end of life. We have used virtual reality to help patients achieve their bucket lists and are building a new mobile app to help families navigate the complex world of palliative care. From our new website, to social media, to our online charity shop boutique, digital has helped us reach our supporters in new ways. We are only at the start of our digital journey but it is clear that digital is not going away and charities of all sizes need to get to grips with what it means for their staff, volunteers and those they support.” The release of the Charity Digital Skills Report follows the recent government commitment to make the UK a world leading digital economy. Its digital strategy released this month includes a pledge to provide digital skills training to millions, as well as boosting digital infrastructure and cyber security.
