This message comes from Trinity's CEO, Dallas Pounds

Exactly one year ago today, there were big celebrations at Trinity. We had just received news from the Care Quality Commission that their inspection had found our specialist palliative and end of life care to be “Outstanding”.

For those of us familiar with Trinity’s care and the expertise and commitment of our staff, achieving the CQC’s top rating was no more than we had hoped for and expected. We knew we delivered outstanding care, but to have it recognised externally was testament to my colleagues’ determination to support our patients to live every moment, to die with dignity and to be there for those left bereaved.

When we made that announcement a year ago, none of us could have foreseen the events of the past few months. We have faced extraordinary challenges both clinically and financially as we have worked to keep our doors open and find new ways to be there for those who need us, wherever they are. We know that many of those challenges will be with us for some time to come.

We have made changes to the way we deliver our care. We have adjusted to being there for patients and their families in new ways. We have worked hard to ensure that “remote” doesn’t mean “disconnected” and face masks and PPE are not barriers to human connection.

I could not be prouder of the way my colleagues have responded to the challenges that have come their way. They have shown again and again that Trinity’s values: excellence, compassion, inspire, integrity, innovation, leadership are in everything we do. Despite all that has changed in this last year, there is cause to celebrate something that hasn’t changed. We still provide outstanding care and we still go the extra mile to make sure patients and their families can make the very best of every moment.
