Trinity welcomes third charity sector graduate trainee Royal Trinity Hospice welcomed its third graduate trainee last month as part of its ongoing partnership with the Charityworks programme. Jillian Etherington will work in Trinity’s retail office in Balham as part of a year’s placement aimed at boosting the profile of Trinity’s 25 shops and online boutique. Charityworks is the leading UK non-profit graduate programme, offering a nationwide recruitment campaign, rigorous selection process and ongoing development for graduates over their 12 month placement. Royal Trinity Hospice became the first hospice to host a Charityworks trainee in 2014 and hosted another placement last year. One graduate secured a permanent role at Trinity while the other continues to work in the charity sector. Trinity also employs a former Charityworks graduate in a management role. Dallas Pounds, Chief Executive of Royal Trinity Hospice, said ‘There is a relatively untapped pool of highly qualified graduates who want to work in the charity sector but hospices are often not on the radar for many. They may assume hospices are NHS organisations, that all jobs are clinical, or that working in death and dying is depressing. However our successful partnership with Charityworks shows that graduates can find the environment stimulating and rewarding here at Trinity and we warmly welcome Jillian into our team.’ Jillian Etherington, Charityworks graduate trainee and Retail Communications and Marketing Officer at Royal Trinity Hospice, said ‘I’m so proud to be a Charityworks trainee and to have been offered a route into the third sector as a space to develop my professional skills, something which is often hard to achieve as a graduate. So far my placement has been varied and exciting, and I am motivated by the knowledge that my work has a positive impact on the amazing care offered by the hospice.’ As well as offering placements for graduates, Trinity offers 12 month voluntary placements for trainee counsellors. There are also opportunities for student nurses and doctors to undertake placements at Trinity as part of their studies.
