About the role:

Book and Media Specialist volunteers support the Shop Manager in every aspect of retail duties. As a Books and Media Specialist volunteer, you will have a keen interest in books and all types of media and will enjoy researching items and finding the right prices. Not all of our shops require a Books and Media Specialist volunteer and therefore individual enquiry into specific shops is necessary.  

Key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Greet our customers and answer general enquiries
  • Use a touch screen till
  • Take receipt of donations, sort and prepare stock to sell
  • Process Gift Aid donations and encourage new Gift Aid donors
  • Assist with Visual merchandising
  • Maintain shop floor standards
  • Assist the Shop Manager with general tasks

Requirements and recommendations:

  • Applicants must be aged 16 and over
  • For this role we recommend you have a good level of physical fitness, as manual handling is required

Mandatory training:

  • Gift Aid training
  • Retail Induction (health and safety; customer service; till training; stock)
  • After interview, should applicants be successful, we will take up two references and expect candidates to complete some online training followed by a day induction. Volunteers within the hospice may require a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check completed; this check will be carried out free of charge by Trinity.
