About the role

We run a number of events throughout the year, often on evenings and weekends, to help raise the £15 million we need each year to keep providing our vital care. On Sunday 22 September we’ll be holding our biggest community event of the year: Family Walk & Fun Day. We’re looking for a volunteer to help ensure those who attend have an amazing experience and that we raise as much as possible.

This role would be ideal for someone who wants to progress into events or fundraising or someone who has a connection with Trinity and would like to donate some time to supporting us. You will be exposed to many areas of the Fundraising team’s campaigns and will have the opportunity to see how large scale events are put together.

In the run up to the event we will be working hard engaging with potential walkers, welcoming those who sign up (via email, telephone and in person) and ensuring the event is a success on the day.

Key responsibilities

  • A commitment of one or two days per week during office hours (Monday to Friday 9am-5pm) until Monday 23 September, with the option to extend if appropriate.
  • Being part of the team who is running the whole event, meaning this role will likely have exposure to all parts of the event.
  • Delivering the supporter journey, from welcoming walkers on the phone, to meeting them in person.
  • Contacting potential walkers via email and post.
  • Making and taking phone calls.
  • Drafting text for promotional material, liaising with suppliers and attending meetings.
  • Ideally you will also be available on the day to help out by welcoming walkers and being on hand to help with the event.

Requirements and recommendations

  • Over the age of 18.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Well-organised, efficient and enthusiastic.
  • Able to work independently and experience of team working.
  • Discretion and tact, and the ability to exercise complete confidentiality.
  • Trustworthy and reliable
  • Willingness to be outside whatever the weather.

What this role will offer you

  • You will be making an important contribution to Trinity and to the thousands of people who use our services.
  • The opportunity to develop your skills or learn new skills. This role would be suitable for someone with an interest in fundraising, the charity sector and events.
  • You will be reimbursed out-of-pocket travel and lunch expenses, in accordance with Trinity policies.

Training and induction

This role will require a short induction with the Volunteer Services Manager to ensure you are aware of health & safety, confidentiality and all the necessary information prior to volunteering at the hospice as well as some basic online training.

You will also be expected to take part in further training, to ensure you are familiar with Fundraising tools, such as our database.
