About the role:

Our Putney Furniture Shop volunteers provide vital support to our Shop Managers in every aspect of the shop from providing excellent customer service to stock research. We rely entirely on the generosity of our donors, for this reason, we always go the extra mile to ensure the right value goes on to our unique pieces.

Exact location: 212-216 Putney Bridge Road, SW15 2PA

The key responsibilities of the role are:

  • To provide excellent customer service
  • Use of a touch screen till
  • To help with collections and unloading deliveries
  • Receiving donations, sorting and preparing stock to sell
  • Processing Gift Aid and encouraging new Gift Aid donors
  • Visual merchandising
  • Maintaining shop floor standards and keeping the shop clean and tidy
  • Understanding and adhering to the boundaries of a volunteer
  • To act as an ambassador for the hospice at all times and be able to talk about the work of the hospice

Requirements and recommendations:

  • Times and dates: Dates and times are to be agreed in advance with the Shop Manager.
  • Applicants must be aged 16 or over
  • To have a pleasant manner, both face-to-face and on the telephone
  • To be a great team player
  • To have the ability to treat with confidentiality any information which is personal, private or sensitive
  • To be well presented
  • To have good interpersonal skills
  • To have the ability to handle money
  • To have a good level of physical fitness
  • To have respect for the Trinity's policies and be able to support the overall aims of Trinity and to act as an ambassador for the hospice

Mandatory Training:

  • Gift Aid training
  • Manual handling training
  • Retail Induction (health and safety; customer service; till training; stock)
  • After interview, should applicants be successful, we will take up two references and expect candidates to complete some online training followed by a day induction. Volunteers within the hospice may require a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check completed; this check will be carried out free of charge by Trinity.
