Salary Band: Negotiable according to current consultant salary scale plus London weighting

Hours: This is a part time post (8PAs) with a 1 in 7 second on call commitment (2% on call allowance)

An exciting position is available for a fixed term locum Consultant position for up to six months, working with a maximum of eight PAs. You would join the medical team of 3 other Consultants, 2 WTE stRs in Palliative medicine, a specialty Doctor, GPVTS, and 2WTE Foundation Year 1 Doctors. The post would be based in Trinity's enviable Inpatient unit and in the community. Participation in training, audit and management is actively encouraged and provides valuable experience.

About the role:

  • Provide consultant support to the inpatient palliative care team at Royal Trinity Hospice and supervise the clinical care provided by the Specialist Registrars attached to the inpatient unit in conjunction with the other consultants at Royal Trinity Hospice.
  • Provide consultant support to one of Trinity’s community palliative care teams and develop close links with the relevant primary care teams in the area.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for the professional development of Specialist Registrars in Palliative Medicine.
  • Jointly with consultant colleagues, act as one of Trinity’s Clinical Supervisors to Specialist Registrars within the Specialist Registrar Rotation for Palliative Medicine. Formal training for the role will be given.
  • Take part in the second on-call rota with the other consultants to enable continuous senior cover for the junior medical staff on-call.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary teaching programmes in Royal Trinity Hospice as well as in the community.
  • Participate and contribute to audit, research and clinical governance activities.

Skills and experience required:

  • Experience in a wide range of palliative care settings
  • Thorough knowledge of principles and practice of palliative care
  • Enthusiasm for teaching 
  • MRCP, MRCGP, FRCR or FRCA
  • Full registration with the GMC
  • On or within three months of being on specialist register for Palliative medicine
  • Knowledge/experience of Primary Care Sector
  • Experience of training in research methodology
  • Experience of clinical audit
