We spoke to Lorna about why she chose to volunteer with Trinity and what she enjoys most about her time here:

Why did you start volunteering with Trinity?

"I came to know about Trinity as my husband’s sister was here. I was always drawn to working at a hospice when I was a social worker, but never went down that path. So, when I saw their need for complementary therapy volunteers, I signed up."

Can you explain a bit about what you do in your volunteer role?

"I’m in the complementary therapy team and offer Reiki to patients, their families and the ward staff here. It’s very a gentle practice which involves channelling energy to help with relaxation and keeping people calm. Some people are dealing with very stressful situations and a complementary therapy session can relax them enough so they can cope with what they’re going through."

What do you enjoy the most about your role?

"I love to see people relax. As long as they find it calm and peaceful, I feel like I’ve achieved what I need to. And the real advantage is giving something to somebody who would otherwise not be able to have it. Everything I get a chance to do here comes from the heart."

What would you say to someone who is thinking about volunteering with Trinity?

"I would definitely recommend it. It feels great to do something you enjoy and give your time where it’s really needed. It’s particularly great at Trinity because everyone from the patients to the staff really appreciate what we’re doing and you feel like you’re truly part of the team."
