What's happening News Royal Trinity Hospice launches new app for patients and carers Royal Trinity Hospice has launched an innovative new app to help patients and carers navigate the often complex world of palliative care. The app provides a comprehensive information hub available for patients and carers which they can access at a convenient time and place for them. The London hospice supports over 1500 patients and their families each year. Most people are supported in their own homes, by specialist nurses and other professionals. Yet feedback from the hospice’s patients and carers was that it can be hard, particularly in the confusing and stressful days and weeks after a terminal diagnosis, to understand the full range of support available. The Trinity app provides tailored information on subjects like managing symptoms, medications and answers to frequently asked questions. Patients and carers can book to attend outpatients groups run at the hospice and contact key hospice teams directly. There are also prompts around advanced care planning for patients and dedicated bereavement content for friends and family. Dallas Pounds, Chief Executive of Royal Trinity Hospice, said, “We know that living with a progressive, life-limiting illness, or caring for someone who does, can be a tremendously difficult time. There is a wealth of support available at the hospice and in the community which can help but it’s not always clear what is available and for who. In this digital age, we know that for many people printed leaflets are no longer the way they want to access information. By developing this app, we hope to complement the outstanding face to face care we provide with an accessible, tailored digital resource to ensure everyone can find the help they need when they need it.” The app was developed with Patiently, a company specialising in building apps to improve the quality of care for patients in the community. It is free to download now from the app store for iPhones and iPads. An Android version will be developed after the evaluation of the pilot.
