Home Our Shops Sustainability Donate goods Volunteer Shops news and blogs Shop sustainably this Christmas We love Christmas but hate waste. Unfortunately, Christmas is the most wonderful, but also most wasteful time of year. The most wonderful and wasteful time of year This year it is estimated that the UK will produce 12,000 tonnes of waste, which is 30% more rubbish compared to the rest of the year. 8 million Christmas trees will be thrown out after a brief time in the limelight and £42 million in unwanted gifts will end up in landfill. This amount of waste is extraordinary and hardly the best way to spread festive cheer. However, there is one easy way you can help reduce this, by shopping sustainably with Trinity. Why shop sustainably at Christmas? Some people think that shopping sustainably means you will lose out on quality. This just isn’t true. In fact, it can add value to your gift. A lot of stock in our charity shops is totally different to what’s on the high street, either vintage or one-of-a-kind pieces. We also receive a lot of surplus stock from big corporate donors, so shopping in charity shops doesn’t always mean the stock is used. Not only will shopping with us make your gift far more thoughtful and memorable, but you will also be reducing your waste, helping a charity and supporting those who are in need of end-of-life and palliative care in South West and Central London.
