Our annual family favourite community campaign now in its 19th year. Each year, a troop of highly committed, super-skilled knitters lovingly craft individual knitted chicks and stuff them with delicious chocolate eggs to be sold in the local community, raising vital funds for the hospice.

The Easter Chicks Campaign began with a modest group of knitters creating, stuffing and selling chicks in 1999. Now an established Trinity tradition, the campaign has grown to see thousands of characterful creations being made each Easter with sales in local schools, pubs, businesses and churches last year reaching £8,000 and incredibly has raised over £80,000 for Trinity since launching.

Funds raised by the Easter Chicks Campaigns make a crucial contribution to the £12 million is costs each year to maintain the hospice’s extensive inpatient, community and outpatient end of life care services provided to 2,500 people across central and south west London. Only a quarter of Trinity’s funding comes for the NHS, meaning the remaining £9 million relies on the generosity of supporters and volunteers

With less than a month to go before the Easter Chicks go on sale, Trinity is calling for more knitters, sales and egg stuffers than ever to make 2018 the biggest year yet for the campaign.

Jane Fletcher, a volunteer at Trinity, has been knitting Easter Chicks for five years. She said: “I first heard of the knitting campaign when I was a volunteer driver for Trinity. I dropped off a box at a local school and thought I can do that! I’m not a great knitter but the design is so quick and easy, it doesn’t matter.”

“I really enjoy the stuffing day; a chance for all the lovely knitters to come together. There are piles of knitted chicks and chocolate eggs everywhere, everybody chats and enjoys tea and coffee.”

“Supporting Trinity is such a pleasure, the hospice is so infectiously positive and cheerful, and knitting is such a simple way to help raise much needed funds.”
