What are they?

An NVQ is a National Certificate or Diploma achieved through assessing competence of the skills, knowledge and understanding required of a job role. The awarding body for these qualifications is Highfield. The NVQ’s available to you whilst volunteering in one of our shops or our retail office are; Retail, Customer Service and Team Leading.

How do I achieve a qualification?

You will be visited once every two weeks by an assessor from Derby College who will watch you completing tasks in your day to day job. In addition to this you will be questioned to show your understanding of your job role and collect evidence of work you have completed. There are no exams involved in this course and all visits will be conducted at your place of work. We ask that you can volunteer for 15 hours or more a week if you want to do an NVQ whilst volunteering with us.

Which qualifications can I gain?

As a retail Trinity volunteer, you can gain the following knowledge based qualifications (BTEC);

  • Customer service level 2
  • Retail Level 2
  • Warehousing and storage level 2
  • Team leading level 2

By completing the above this will stand you in great stead to complete one of the 4-6 months courses below and gain a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in either;

  • Retail Level 2
  • Customer Service Level 2
  • Team Leading Level 2

Level 2 in Retail

This is aimed at candidates who work in a retail environment carrying out a range of activities, such as;

  • Displays
  • Deliveries
  • Replenishment
  • Taking payments
  • Health & safety
  • Security
  • Sorting donated goods.

Level 2 in Customer Service

This is primarily aimed at candidates who undertake a customer service role, following company and legal requirements, resolve customer queries & problems whilst maintaining a positive impression of the company.

Level 2 in Team Leading

This is aimed at candidates who are in roles where they have a responsibility for the work of others as they lead a team. They need to understand the need to motivate, support and develop their team and be able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed for a career in management and leadership.
