We spoke to Steve about why he chose to volunteer with Trinity and what he enjoys most about his time here:

"I had a friend who I’d known for many years who died at Trinity. At that point I thought maybe I should give something back. The care she got was all very calm, it’s person-centred, and almost as though people are just floating by. For me, doing this is a kind of payback.  Initially I thought I would only be here for a year or so, but it’s been 5 years and I’m still here!

The team here, we’re a really mixed bag of characters, which you wouldn’t get in an ordinary workplace; all the volunteers are here because they want to be. I’ve made proper friends through Trinity, and I enjoy promoting the sustainability aspect of what we’re doing, it’s bringing in a whole new demographic of customer.

If you’re thinking of volunteering, I’d say give it a go. If you’re looking for a sense of purpose or direction, volunteering can give you that, but equally if you just have some spare time, there are lots of different skills you can pick up here. Identify what you want to get out of it, but even if you’re not sure, just come and try it!"
