On 31 October Tish and Vicky are running a yoga workshop to fundraise for our vital care. Below Tish tell us about how yoga has helped her with her diagnosis and why they are supporting Trinity.

Tell us about your event?

We’re running a yoga workshop to boost your immune system led by Vicky, who is a very experienced teacher. The aim is to equip us all with simple tools to increase immunity against diseases like COVID-19. In addition, breathing and movement through yoga reduces cancer pain so it’s great for anyone you know who has cancer.

The yoga class takes place on 31 October at 2pm UK time. It’s open to everyone and will be live streamed so you can do it at home in real time or download the video afterwards. It’s donation based so there’s no cost for the class. Just register with Triyoga who are hosting the event.

Is this type of activity totally new for you or are you often getting involved in different activities?

I’ve got stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in my bones and liver. I’ve found yoga to be instrumental in helping me manage pain, increase energy and calming my brain.

What was your motivation to fundraise for Trinity?

October is breast cancer awareness month and that inspired me to raise money for the amazing nurses who provide palliative care to cancer patients at home or in a hospice, like Trinity.

Did you have any expectations of what a hospice would be like that were changed when you came to Trinity?

Because of COVID, I’ve not managed to see Trinity in person, but through word of mouth and from friends and family, I know Trinity provides wonderful care to dying cancer patients as do other hospices in London like Pembridge and St Johns. You are all amazing!

It’s a vital service that often gets overlooked for funding. Once my chemo ends and there’s no other treatments available, there’s only morphine and alternative remedies left. I will rely totally on the care of CNS nurses and my family, ultimately my wish is to die in a hospice cared for professionals like at Trinity.

How can people support you in your event?

Please join the yoga event and give it a go. Tell your friends or anyone you think may be interested. If it’s not for you personally, think about yoga as a tool that could help friends or family members who are diagnosed with cancer. It has transformed my life.
