An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed individual with experience at a senior level in health and/or social care to join Trinity's board and Patient Services Committee.

Royal Trinity Hospice

Royal Trinity Hospice is the country's oldest hospice. Today Trinity is the specialist end of life care provider for a community of around 750,000 people living in seven central London boroughs and in 2017 we provided expert, compassionate care to around 2,400 patients and their families.

We care for adults with progressive, life-limiting illnesses, helping them to live life to the full for whatever time may be left, and we also support their families in bereavement. We have seen significant growth in our patient numbers in recent years. We employ 260 staff, assisted by over 500 volunteers.

  • In 2017/18 we provided
  • 8171 bed days to 415 patients
  • Support to 1813 patients at home
  • 3069 outpatient attendances
  • 1473 bereavement counselling sessions

More information on the difference we make can be found in our Impact Framework. All Trinity services free at the point of use.

Growth strategy

In 2017 Trinity’s board and management agreed an ambitious growth strategy to increase our reach and impact substantially over the next 3 years. We aim to reach at least 30% more patients by 2020. We will continue to develop our state of the art inpatient service but we plan to focus additional resources on strengthening our community service - where the unmet patient need is large and growing. This means investing in qualified staff to provide coordinated care to more patients throughout the community. We are in the process of running a multi-phase pilot and raising the necessary funding.

Trustee search

We are looking for an additional trustee to join our board (currently 13 trustees). Above all, we are looking for strong individuals who will share our commitment to delivering Trinity’s exciting plan to expand its reach and impact, but are specifically seeking candidates who will bring us extensive experience and understanding of the health and social care sector.

Community health and social care

Our growth strategy is focussed on expanding our unique end of life care philosophy more fully into the communities we serve. Two of the current trustees are senior healthcare professionals. We are looking for an additional trustee to join our board and our Patient Services Committee who:

  • has a recent background in, or continues to work at a senior level in, health and/or social care, as provider or commissioner, and understands the interdependence and challenges of both;
  • appreciates the role of voluntary/charitable organisations in the health and social care environment;
  • can help our senior management to continue to develop an innovative approach to meeting increasing demand and the complex needs of our changing population.

Time commitment

2-3 days per quarter including board/committee meetings and ad hoc interactions with senior clinical staff and services.

  • Candidates ideally should have recent experience of serving on the board of a charity or corporation
  • Candidates should have an understanding of the role of Trustee and meet the eligibility requirements to act as a Trustee (The Charities Act 2011)
  • The roles are unremunerated but reasonable expenses are reimbursable
  • Location: our inpatient unit and offices are in Clapham. Candidates will ideally have a strong connection with our catchment area which includes the London boroughs of Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham, Wandsworth, Lambeth, Richmond and Merton.
