Common Cause: your neighbourhood coffee spot from Royal Trinity Hospice

Welcome to Common Cause Café

Welcome to your new local café. Based inside a historic Georgian building on the north side of Clapham Common, you’ll find Common Cause; the only charity café in Clapham.

We serve great Ozone coffee, fresh pastries, homemade bakes, and a daily menu of seasonal salads, sandwiches and snacks.

You can eat in and enjoy our cosy café space, relax outside on the terrace and enjoy the beautiful gardens. Or take us with you on your morning coffee run or walks across the Common.

Visit us

We’re here for everyone in the community, but we’re more than a café (the clue is in the name). Let us tell you about the cause behind the coffee…

Your coffee works wonders

Every drink, snack, cake and pastry at Common Cause helps support Royal Trinity Hospice. The hospice needs to raise £14 million every year to continue providing free specialist end of life care. Just like our charity shops, 100% of our profits go directly toward this care.

A close-up of a hand holding a beige ceramic cup filled with a hot coffee drink, topped with a smooth layer of steamed milk. The cup sits on a matching saucer. The hand has metallic teal nail polish with a star design on one fingernail and is wearing a translucent ring. The background is softly blurred with warm wooden tones, creating a cosy café setting.

Whether you’re grabbing your morning coffee, meeting a friend, or stopping by after a dog walk, you’re helping make a real difference to people in our London community.

Thank you for being part of the Common Cause.

Good coffee, low impact

Royal Trinity Hospice has won several awards for our commitment to sustainability, so it only felt right to bring those values into Common Cause too. From choosing ethical suppliers to using recycled and refurbished furniture, we’ve thought about the planet in every detail, even the paint on our walls is eco‑friendly. Take a look at the sustainability choices in our café that just make sense.

Ozone Coffee
We serve B‑Corp certified Ozone Coffee, sourced ethically and responsibly.
A close-up of an espresso machine extracting coffee into a white, ridged ceramic cup. Two thin streams of dark brown espresso flow steadily from a metal portafilter spout into the cup below. The espresso machine is made of polished metal with a black handle, and the drip tray beneath reflects light. The background is softly blurred, showing warm tones of a café setting, with focus on the rich colour and texture of the espresso as it pours.
Huskee Cups
Our cups are made from coffee husks, a durable and sustainable alternative to plastic.

The Common Counter

The Common Cause counter top is made from recycled fridges!

Raw Workshop
90% of our furniture is recycled or refurbished, created in partnership with Raw Workshop

This is your space

Common Cause Café is designed to be a space for everyone. A space to unwind, to work, to catch up, or to take a break. Whether you’re on a morning walk, grabbing your first coffee of the day, stopping in after the school run or visiting loved ones at the hospice, you’re always welcome here.

An indoor café scene showing two people seated at a wooden counter, each working on a laptop. In the foreground, one person sits facing sideways, with a white ceramic cup of coffee on a saucer placed in front of them alongside a pastry. Behind them, another person sits at the counter using a laptop, wearing glasses and a light striped shirt. The background features a softly lit wall with built-in shelves filled with various green houseplants in different pots, including trailing vines and leafy plants. Warm ambient lighting highlights the greenery and creates a calm, inviting atmosphere.

We’re also a coworking‑friendly café, with plenty of plug sockets and comfortable seating so you can get work done while enjoying good coffee.

Here’s a taste of the menu

Our menu changes regularly so we can offer fresh, seasonal ingredients. We serve artisan coffee, pastries, bakes, salads, homemade soup, sandwiches and more. You can sit inside the café, use our coworking tables, or enjoy your food outdoors on our terrace overlooking the hospice’s beautiful gardens. Here’s a sample menu.

A bowl of clear chicken and vegetable soup with noodles, served on a white plate with a spoon and slices of toasted bread.
A hand holding a thick sandwich filled with sliced avocado and salmon, with trees blurred in the background.

A round mulberry sponge cake dusted with icing sugar, cut open to show a layer of cream and berries inside, displayed on a metal cake stand.
