We spoke to Amy about why she volunteers with Trinity:

Why did you start volunteering with Trinity?

"I’ve been volunteering with Trinity in the café for the past 8 years. I live in the local area so was aware of the hospice already. I’ve done volunteering throughout my life, so it seemed like a good idea to get involved."

Can you explain a bit about what you do in your volunteer role?

"I volunteer on Thursdays and make sandwiches, coffees, teas and serve people on the till. As COVID-19 restrictions have reduced, we have more people using the café, which means we can chat to the family members that come in and get to know them a little more."

What do you enjoy about your role?

"I love talking with everyone. The café team is great fun and I have a chance to chat with all the visitors, families, staff and other volunteers that come in. Sometimes you’ll find people are quite emotional and you can help give them a safe space to have a coffee and gather their thoughts. It’s also really nice to get to know some of the day patients who come in, learn their regular orders and build up a relationship. And of course the buildings and grounds are beautiful!"

What would you say to someone who is thinking about volunteering with Trinity?

"Just do it! I absolutely love what I do here and Trinity has a great atmosphere. I’ve been in various volunteering roles over the years and this is most certainly the place I’ve stayed the longest."
