No Barriers Here© is a unique and innovative approach to advance care planning for people and communities who experience inequality accessing palliative and end of life care.

What is advance care planning (ACP)?

ACP is the process of deciding what plans you want to make for your future care if you were to become seriously ill. It gives you the opportunity to think about what you would and would not like to happen to you. It also helps your loved ones and health care professionals know what is important to you when planning your care should you be unable to communicate them yourself.

Why has Trinity decided to adopt No Barriers Here©?

We know there are people within our catchment area who experience disparity in accessing palliative and end of life care and so often do not have the opportunity to plan for the end of life. This is due to systematic barriers, socio-economic factors, and a lack of awareness from some healthcare professionals amongst other reasons people may not access care.

No Barriers Here© workshops are a proven tool for creating safe and inclusive places within the community for early conversations about planning ahead for the end of life. We use arts-based methods for a series of group workshops, creating a less verbal yet more equitable approach to advance care planning.

What is involved?

No Barriers Here© takes a different approach to having these important conversations. Attendees are guided through a series of distinctive workshops where people share their choices and wishes using arts-based methods such as collage, textiles and weaving to create thoughtful and truly personalised advance care plans.
