What does a patient driver volunteer do?

Our patient driver volunteers support our work by providing transport to patients accessing Trinity’s outpatient groups and services.

In this role you will have the opportunity to

  • Provide efficient and safe transport for patients to and from Trinity in your own vehicle
  • Help to chat to patients and make them feel comfortable and at ease whilst travelling with you

Please note that Trinity’s patient catchment area covers Wandsworth and parts of Lambeth, Merton, Westminster, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea and Richmond. We try to allocate patients to drivers in their local area where possible, but trips outside your area may be required on occasion.

How much time will I need to commit?

This role is flexible and can fit in around your existing commitments. Patient transport volunteers usually give a day per week.

Patient driver volunteers require a full driving licence, with a minimum of two years driving experience and no endorsements. They will also need to hold a current MOT and tax certificates for their vehicle.

For insurance purposes, patient driver volunteers must be aged between 25 and 70 years of age. You will need to inform your insurance company that you will be using your car for volunteering purposes. Mileage and congestion/ULEZ charges incurred as part of your volunteer role will be reimbursed.

Other volunteer roles at Trinity

Each appropriate applicant will be asked to attend an informal interview. If successful, we will then take up two references and ask you to complete a DBS check. You will also be required to complete some online training and to attend an in-person induction and training session.
